@ellis PHP 4 isn’t affected!

Motherfuckers over here trying to get the French version of No King's Protests.
Vectors, meet Virtuoso.
Native HNSW vector indexing has landed in the Virtuoso Open Source develop/7 branch, with ONNX-based text embeddings, optimizer tuning, Windows build support and the new VVec console alongside.
Similarity search across native relational tables via SQL and RDF graphs via SPARQL, one engine.
Branch-level today, ahead of a release. Enjoy!
Similarity search and SPARQL in one engine is the bit that matters for entity work. Find candidates by embedding, then confirm identity against the graph in the same query, instead of shuttling IDs between a vector store and a triple store and hoping they still agree.

This is a real shame - a dedicated track for DEI in FOSS would have been an amazing opportunity.
I do kinda like this shared waiting for the PHP thing to drop. Kinda like Christmas.
Lol
Y'a des pannes chez Orange et des trucs de faille PHP, les hordes de chez LFI sabotent vraiment tout
Here we go, update now
Much of the resistance to #DEI initiatives seems to come from people who are offended by the suggestion that they're against DEI when they simply feel diversity is normal and should happen organically, and so don't see the need to change their stance.
The point of #DEI is to create awareness of the fact that a situation, in which you may already be welcoming to diversity, is not in fact diverse. Doesn't mean there's evil intent. Does mean something isn't working well.
@lightspill Oh that was one of my favorite Star Trek books, one of the few I kept for possibly someday rereading when I gave away almost all my collection.
Besides enjoying the story I loved when I realized I understood its structure --- basically every story element starts in media res and then flashes back to how we got there --- and how that matched the whole time-out-of-joint premise of the book. I think it was the first time I understood how you could structure a story in a way that echoed the plot.
@Austin_Dern@blimps.xyz I think I might have been too young to grasp it properly when I first encountered it. But it's now up there as one of my favorites.
I don't think we can shame #FOSDEM enough for not accepting the #DEI devroom. https://fosstodon.org/@RosannaSibora/117475238625142335
Here’s what The Counteroffensive is reading today:
Russia resumes shipping diesel to Turkey and Brazil. The tankers carry 300,000-barrel diesel cargoes each.
The volumes of Russian diesel export, which Trump agreed to, are modest, but can be scaled up to 3.5 million tons per month.
"Eins - hahaha, zwei - mahahahaha, drei - muhahaha, vier..."
"Ok, Graf Zahl, genug Private Keys für heute erzeugt"
@dickenhobelix du hast dich vertippt, das muss
"Eins - hahaha, zwei - mahahahaha, drei - eMuhahahadhra, vier..."
heißen. 😂
@gzt I have something called 'shame by proxy' or 'vicarious embarrassment'.
It means I can't stand it when somebody onscreen (or even in books) is doing something cringe/embarrassing, especially if nobody with a brain would do that. It makes sitcoms mostly unwatchable for me.
Do you think that I'll get triggered by You Can See Everything? Wife and I were discussing going to see it. I don't want to go and have to leave.
@gedvondur maybe - is a little cringe, but it's more like staring into a nuclear furnace of narcissism and deceit.

Fediverse
TIL the fediverse basically DDOS's sites when you share a link.
I shared a link from NPR Tiny Desk but there was no image preview or video embed. After investigating this I learned that when you do that, each instance picks up the link and individually retrieves the link preview nearly simultaneously. For gargantuan sites like YT or Reddit, this is a trivial amount of traffic and not a problem, but for smaller sites like NPR this results in a sort of botnet DDOS attack on the site’s servers. More here. Another example here . For that reason, NPR has blocked Fediverse servers like Mastodon.
I have experienced this on my personal server as well (DDOS), but at the time didn’t know why, exactly.
This isn’t the end of the world, but certainly is not great and hurts engagement with the content. Is there a solution for this? Perhaps using some sort of webtorrent service like PeerTube where they just fetch the information from another fediverse server instead of the source server? Maybe fetching embeds client-side? At least that would stagger the requests.
Don't worry people, I'm making a patch
