truly a wild time to be alive when the cryptography world is split between those worried about quantum computers and those whose private key is “4”

Underappreciated aspect of IT procurement: keyboard layouts. I easily lose 1% productivity daily because I am using a German keyboard layout at work and a US keyboard layout everywhere else. They are annoyingly different, e.g., the Y and Z being in swapped positions trips me up regularly.
@eloquence the only real answer https://www.daskeyboard.com/daskeyboard-4-ultimate
@mrsaturday @coolboymew @sun Also I should add something else: internet artists are petty and spiteful towards anyone who even gets too successful in that sphere and might have stepped on some people along the way.
Look at Vivziepop, many of the people who shit on her do it because she managed to break out of that scene. There's some valid reasons to shit on her or her work, but they've been overshadowed by the BlueSky people screeching at her wishing that they could be in her shoes with a big name production.
Or how a problematic artist who drew edgy shit a few years ago will always have someone tagging along every time someone features his art to dump the Google Doc/screenshots. To them, it's no different than an artist actually doing heinous shit.
Overhead, without any fuss, the php servers were going out.

5 months of work of 5 people actually. we have QA engineers and pentesters, they are not listed in contributors. If you don’t like something, you can just help make this nice

HS: Anni Muukkonen on kyllästynyt joustamaan etäilijöiden vuoksi https://www.hs.fi/lifestyle/art-2000012343915.html
Ja Rolle Laukkarinen on lopen kyllästynyt joustamaan ekstroverttien ja aamuvirkkujen vuoksi.
Seuraavaksi pakotan kaikki livelörpöttelijät IRC-kanavalle! Ei edes mikrofonia tai kameraa tai mitään. Nokian kommunikaattori käteen ja koppiin yksin. Jaa eikö maistu vai? VOI VOI.

@rolle sinäkin lankesit tähän trolliartikkeliin
there's a disingenuous argument i see go completely unchallenged all the time, which is "this <computer thing> deserves to be respected and celebrated, because it underpins the entire world and you wouldn't have {products, services, entertainment, electricity, food, etc} without it". like, we had supermarkets before SQL. we had maps before Google Maps. the world functioned successfully, it just wasn't on Computer. now it *needs* Computer, when it didn't before. strange to brag about that, really
i think the IT-dominated 'tech industry' of the ~21st century is historically distinct from earlier eras, in that it is largely parasitic, using novel ideas primarily to capture existing industries and extract the value from them. all the 'great new things' it has provided are things we could already do before, but now they're a bit quicker and more convenient, and under the total control of corporations. nothing life-changing or life-saving like the tech developed in the 20th century
It’s time to get some meow meows
Goodnight my dear friends

@stux
Good morning to you
At least by the time you read this :)
I still can't that the Japanese word for glove is 手袋 - hand+pouch
@nina_kali_nina german uses Hand Shoe
.pl my beloved
@rysiek isn't the whole "I can run an independent OS" also hinged on the prerequisite that:
a) some "trusted" corpo has benevolently signed your first stage bootloader shim;
and/or
b) that your government allows hardware to be sold which can have Secure Boot disabled / allows arbitrary signing keys?
The way I see it, that we currently have all the prerequisites in place for some fascist government to say: "Hey, for security reasons, we will only allow devices to be sold that have enabled Secure Boot and ship our list of pre-approved Corpo and Government signing keys."
After that it would be a relatively small step to say:"Hey, for security reasons we can only allow your bootloader shim to be signed if you correctly implement our dystopian surveillance features :)"
@wall_e yeah, I am really worried about all the age verification BS being pushed around the world now. That can very easily lead to "oh we need government-mandated OSes on all devices otherwise we cannot trust the age verification signal! think of the children!"
@Angelo @gilesgoat oh yeah burnout of course. I believe some of the Burnout devs worked on it too.
@llamasoft_ox @Angelo Is there any section where internationally you have to create crashes ?? 🙂
@davidgerard I can't get verified by archive.org and don't have a subscription to FT, so can I just assume this is Musk peddling more sci fi bs to hide that Tesla is in trouble?
