Well that was a first for me...

Instead of hearing "This call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes..."

...I just heard "This call may be analyzed by AI for quality assurance purposes."

Lovely.

Awesome.

@skinnylatte

tbh I've always found it damning that the other Christian sects just...let the Evangelicals control everything for 50 years. Like, didn't feel the need to *do anything* as they ::checks notes:: eviscerated the social safety net and the rights of a half-dozen minorities.

So, in my way of thinking, this poll isn't showing what these people actually think; it's showing what they want other people to think about them.

I fucking hate this extractive capitalist timeline.

So many of my friends are hurting right now in such deep ways.

I want to help out every single one of them, but I just don't have the resources.

Fuck.

@lukeharby I too would love to know this 😄

@alisynthesis Theremins are great for just exploring and messing around. Add a simple effects box with knobs for things like tone and echo and reverb, and people can really go crazy while learning about effects.

@That_One_Guy They're on our household boycott list.

@PattaFeuFeu @jakobmiksch @streetcomplete @everydoor Yes, I'm patientlywaiting for the iOS version of StreetComplete as it'll let a bunch of people take part.

@DavidReed It's a way of indicating that I'm stipulating to the validity of the position of the person cited, while offering a refinement or exception to their argument.

"Pax Occam, in this instance it's the case that the more complex explanation is true."

Hey, #FediHelp #FediAdvice

TL;DR looking for websites for freelancing for Front End Development.

Any Front End JavaScript Developers using sites where you can pitch for freelance work?

I seemed to have signed up to a couple recently that I am not super impressed with.

I used to use peopleperhour.com although it was quite varied in terms of quality and $ some clients were willing to offer. PPH tried to bring people in line.

Anyway here are some with some descriptors.

Twine

• Worldwide
• Uses AI
• Has a subscription model/Free tier is limited

xing.com

• Worldwide?
• Uses AI?
• Has a subscription model/Free tier is limited. (I have still yet to complete my profile on here, which I think is somewhat damning)

People per hour

• Worldwide
• Some bad pricing
• No longer free (seems like this one has gone down the pan).

Any others? I was happy to look to go back to PPH, but not anymore.

Would ideally like something UK centric, or with a heavy UK basis, no AI and ideally not a paid tier model.

(Feel free to retoot for more reach)

I shared a link from NPR Tiny Desk but there was no image preview or video embed. After investigating this I learned that when you do that, each instance picks up the link and individually retrieves the link preview nearly simultaneously. For gargantuan sites like YT or Reddit, this is a trivial amount of traffic and not a problem, but for smaller sites like NPR this results in a sort of botnet DDOS attack on the site’s servers. More here. Another example here . For that reason, NPR has blocked Fediverse servers like Mastodon.

I have experienced this on my personal server as well (DDOS), but at the time didn’t know why, exactly.

This isn’t the end of the world, but certainly is not great and hurts engagement with the content. Is there a solution for this? Perhaps using some sort of webtorrent service like PeerTube where they just fetch the information from another fediverse server instead of the source server? Maybe fetching embeds client-side? At least that would stagger the requests.

Humanity will gradually diverge into two separate species, one of which is unable to perform quote boosts and one of which cannot bear to look at any shape other than a circle. This is the secret backstory of "Blindsight" https://fedi.gabby.li/@mark/117473759954314437
