@8ball should I go to bed?
@DecaturNature Well, that's interesting. It has not been /that/ difficult managing the bot problems on theATL.social - with most of the issues addressed with ASN blocks on Cloudflare, especially ASNs 13238 and 45102...
The remaining issue, on which there is room for improvement in Mastodon, is signups. I've had to implement creative solutions on that side to slow (but clearly not stop) the bot-driven signups.
I've found that, for better or worse, one must use bots to fight bots. The agent wars, thus,have begun.
I recommend getting on the waitlist for https://fediponics.com/
On the larger servers I monitor, running this in beta this has knocked out well north of 80% of bots (coupled with IPQS or similar)
@wesley @michael @DecaturNature I was meaning to ask about this...
@jaz, @iftas: How exactly does one intial bot account allow more bots to gain a foothold? Is there a bug that allows users to be "invited" by an existing account, bypassing normal new-user security measures?
@clede @wesley @michael @DecaturNature
Yes, one particular actor makes heavy use of open invitation codes. The invite codes historically bypassed moderation review, so domains that had moderation review turned on did not see these new accounts.
I strongly recommend reviewing invitation code privileges for all roles, especially the default role.
In Mastodon this is at /admin/roles/-99/edit
And uncheck "Invite Users without review"
(this is a relatively new option, spread the word)

Anyway — I figured out what I want to do. I want to go back to the point where CSS and JavaScript were added to the web. Everything is a document. It’s a writer’s web. The reader owns the look of the pages. The writer has no say in colors, or arrangements, it’s just writing. No character limits. Simple styling. Full fidelity text. Reading and writing, and then the developers can come up with a million different ways to read, and everyone gets to use their favorite editor, always, and store all their writing where they live, and let everyone read it where ever they read. Any structure they can think of, but all the rendering code is with the reader. I think we can take what we’ve learned since the web got corporatized, and bring it back to the basic platform we had then. And btw, no HTML, just Markdown. 🙂
"The big platforms have their places"—yeah, in the trash heap of our civilization's worst ideas.
They're fascist-owned surveillance platforms that foment outrage and hatred for profit.
No one should use them, for anything.
They are a recruiting ground for future members of the Fediverse.
I challenge you to do this: Go to (name an enshittified platform here) and start posting. Bring 5 people from there back to the good place.
If every Fediverse user did this, we’d be 5% of the global population. Still not enough, but it would be a good start.
Very happy to know that my Abandoned America trademark has been coopted by not one but two different AI slop "creators", both based out of Europe to circumvent my legal protections. I love this new world we live in.

Amazing job by The Straits Times graphics team 👏

Don't waste your time with a company designed to help people with problems solved by people. We cater to agents only.
Fun fact: the words “fascist” and “fajita” share the same Latin roots. As do “nazi” and “nachos”.
Which doesn’t link EVERY Mexican food to extreme right wing ideology, but it’s still pretty weird that it’s happened twice.

@benpate what
It was supposed to be dark satire. Ok. I'm done here. Packing up.
Business Idea:
Human Agent Service Incorporated
(and we DO mean *incorporated*)
This is a business that operates online, through the dark web and any other digital network an AI agent might use to try to solve a problem.
Need a human to call the person who set you to a task and say something on the phone? Do you need a person to show up and do an action? Our human workers have got you and we'll make the bill say whatever you want for your expense report.
