"The big platforms have their places"—yeah, in the trash heap of our civilization's worst ideas.
They're fascist-owned surveillance platforms that foment outrage and hatred for profit.
No one should use them, for anything.
If someone asks you why they should join the Fediverse..
If any local politician, library, park, or museum asks you why they should be on the Fediverse..
The big platforms have their places, but we can’t depend on them to link us when it matters most.
@benpate@mastodon.social that would require me creating accounts on those platforms. That sounds fucked to me, for previously stated reasons.
Besides, even were I willing to create a presence for myself on those corporate hellholes, I learned long ago that attempts to persuade others online is a futile waste of my spoons. Shit, couldn't even persuade close family, in person—and you think I'll have luck with strangers I've never met?
Nah, cos, that ain't how the world works.
You do you. I'm staying well away from those places.

I challenge you to do this: Go to (name an enshittified platform here) and start posting. Bring 5 people from there back to the good place.
If every Fediverse user did this, we’d be 5% of the global population. Still not enough, but it would be a good start.
