FediDevs
These are the people building the Fediverse!
no brainer
FreeBSD, of course !
@FrankauLux the point is: they need to use some Linux only software (I know, I know) and I've tested it on an LX zone and it works. The Linuxulator seems to show some problems with it, so I'd need to use a small bhyve VM. That's not a big issue, but I prefer to avoid the overhead of virtualisation if not needed.
Good morning, #Fediverse
It's a warm Sunday morning, I'm supposed to be doing something more urgent but I'm totally stuck in a dilemma:
FreeBSD or SmartOS for that new setup?
Life can be hard.
Ruben's Third Rule of Social Media:
If you ask to not have something explained to you, someone will explain it to you.
@stefano@bsd.cafe @andyc@yakshaving.social I agree. I thought about building out a section for folks trying to migrate from "stock" LittleFedi, but I don't honestly want to be responsible if it fails.
I think what I'll do is caution that I have done zero work to ensure that my fork is drop in compatible with existing installs, and that the "happy path" is starting from scratch with my fork if you're going to try it.
Trying to decide how much I miss pinned posts at the moment and whether or not I should build that :)
Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that I have a filter to exclude and not see 'KDE' and I follow 'AlpineLinux', what happens in #mastodon when there's a toot with #alpinelinux and #kde? Does it show in my timeline or not?
Been a while, huh?
I'm currently reworking my profile to match my current information, it's been almost a year since I used this profile and it shows. I'm on my phone at the moment but I'm going to log in on my desktop later, where I can actually do most of my changes.
Keep a look out, I'm making this my main profile again. :)
@amadaluzia welcome back!
I published some of my #dotfiles at https://codeberg.org/midtsveen/dotfiles
I know it's still very much a WIP, but I'm excited to eventually try out AlpineBSD
https://sr.ht/~sircmpwn/alpinebsd/
(NetBSD base + Alpine pkgs)

Updating NetBSD system files on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with the 'sysupgrade' utility requires a small edit to /usr/pkg/etc/sysupgrade.conf:
RELEASEDIR="https://nycdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-$(uname -r | cut -d. -f1)/latest/$(uname -m)-$(uname -p)"
This changes part of the subdir from "evbarm" (which doesn't exist) to "evbarm-earmv6hf" (which does).
Please note that I might not know what I'm doing, being quite new to NetBSD.
Last week I stopped playing the old Amiga Ambermoon #retro computer #roleplay #game after I finished the starting quests on the first island. I lost interest and it was again because of something that I never like in rpgs: "Grinding to survive". So, I decided against going now below Waterdeep and rid the city of the evil that hides in its sewers. 👁️
But I wanted a second try in my "I want to play some the of the roleplay games. I enjoyed when I was young"...
Today I found my old "Das Schwarze Auge /Realms of Arcania" discs: "Schicksalsklinge", "Sternenschweif" and "Shadow over Riva" in the attic (sic!;-).
Yeah, it's a round based crpg. And I played through all three of them in the classical way. I played the DSA pen and paper with some friends in my youth. The whole introduction into AD&D came with the computer and EOB.
But I know I can work around the fighting system to fight pesky Orcs, Goblins and other creatures and let the computer do it automatically instead for DSA2 and 3.
Heh, never worshipped "Rondra" a lot, was more of a "Firun&Ifirn", "Phex" or "Hesinde" type of person. 😉 So, I want to play it more like an action adventure. If it fails me, we meet in the face of "Boron" :-).
Now setting up dosbox on my #RunBSD and the games my NAS and I'm off to Thorval, the Salamander Stones and then Riva for a while.
He's so serene
anybody have contacts at twelve99.net that might be able to track down what appears to be a routing loop or otherwise ?
A traceroute from my local machine/ISP to a remote machine seems to get caught in their address-space bouncing between various machines until traceroute hits TTL limits and gives up.
If I try to connect to the same remote host/IP from several other points around the web (whether pinging, directly connecting with telnet/nc, or using the VPS as a tunnel), it works fine, so I know the remote server is up and running and responding appropriately.
Pushed out a set of small, but helpful changes to grubby (https://git.btxx.org/grubby/)
- Avoid creating HTML files for source items larger than 1MB (instead creates a page mentioning "too large")
- Now shows each file size in the list view and on individual source file pages
- Agnostic on lower/uppercase for README filenames (overlooked that since the beginning - oops!)
- Sticky number lines that stay in position on horizontal scrolling
This is why dogfooding helps!
Now I'm heading off the bed :P
@alexia@app.wafrn.net
Wait
That's what wafrn stands for?
Why am I only learning this lore now?
Stumbled across this - you can set up Libby (the library app) to human content only. Excellent, except it’s all authors (including fully AI) by default.
Libby > Settings > Content Controls > AI Contributions
Hola gente!
@dansup@mastodon.social Watch out as Iceshrimp is compared from the Iceshrimp.NET version, that is still in beta and I think far from OK for common use.
Iceshrimp.JS is their main version and has more functionalities than shown in the list.
@marud it goes by what they report in nodeinfo
