@ailurocrat We're trying to make it as easy to host as possible! Though the Guix service will be helpful for Guix users, the general approach should be possible on any Linux distro, and we'd love to get our relay daemon supported on other distros such as Debian, Fedora, etc!

A better way to implement this sort of thing would've been to send an ActivityPub DM with a code or a link. I've already seen this somewhere. This way you only use a common ActivityPub feature and don't depend on each server's client API at all.

Depending on the community you're working with, be ready for people to say that the visual design is not as consumer-oriented as Discord's. Personally I'm chill with 2010s-era web design, but I could see it scaring off some young'uns.
