@evan and I didn't even have to use AI to get a good deal 😆
@Edent teach me your ways!
Discussion
These are the people building the Fediverse!
We do have bugs but our bugs were hand-crafted by humans.

A small fix it seems: https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/commit/6c62ba63e8e9dd35f007b2a11414515491a2c1fe
Perhaps should start a thread and post every time I see one from now on.
@grunfink @thedaemon great fish
Weird how the AI people are so scared of the "paperclip maximizer" destroying us while reshaping the whole economy around infrastructures for stochastic token machines.
Going to book my #FOSDEM accommodation well in advance.
What's your favourite hotel in Brussels for FOSDEM?
(Looking for personal recommendations from people who have gone to the conference recently.)
@Edent booking reasonably in advance for an event you're sure you're going to attend to get affordable hotel rates and travel prices!?? What dark sorcery is this?!?!
FOSDEM 2027 Dev Room Application Is In
After all this talk of 3d landscapes and newfangled techno wizardry, I jumped at the chance to work on drawing some old school monochrome dungeon and hex map work for a zine Wicked North Games are pulling together. (wickednorthgames.com) . They asked for something simple, which I overshot slightly and had to be reigned in, ha ha, but the result is so much fun. #osr #dnd #ttrpg #dungeonmap #dungeoncrawl

The old video game "Asteroids" reprogrammed so objects move at relativistic velocities.

Here we can observe how the mother locomotive tows her tramlings into their safe depot, where the tramlings can grow into full trains in a safe environment.
One thing people got outraged about when we launched SWF a couple of years ago was that we had links to our accounts on siloed social media sites from our website. I don't think it's the wrong thing to do, but a lot of people got really upset about it.
Anyway, interesting results on this poll. Thanks to everyone who participated.
I couldn’t sleep, and so, for whatever reason, thought to do something I haven’t done in years: play around with the Mandelbrot set.
Whatever computational backend this site runs on is way more sophisticated and capable than these things used to be: what you’re looking at here is the set’s “ass crack,” followed inward to ludicrous levels of zoom. (Again: couldn’t sleep.)
Then I got curious about how big the total set would be from this position, if every time I did a reverse-pinch gesture the portion visible on the screen was subjected to 10x magnification. It turns out it only takes 29 reverse pinches for that dimension to exceed the diameter of the known universe.
Finding minibrots really really deep in the set always puts me in mind of Carl Sagan’s spine-tingling conceit in “Contact,” about the discovery of a perfect rasterized circle buried somewhere past the octillionth digit of π. There is the distinct brush of the numinous.
This poll came up because I was doing promotion of @swf 's Fediverse Multimedia Grants on my personal feeds and the organization feeds on X, Facebook, Threads, and LinkedIn.

Ada Lovelace Day! Digital painting to honor Ada Byron Lovelace’s contributions to programming. Look closely at her shawl, it has a faint impression of her Note G computer algorithm code, and behind her is the Babbage engine. This originally appeared in the book Wonderful Women of the World.
I should be clear that I'm not a social network purist. I think that using the Fediverse first is best. But I also share life events and family photos on Instagram and Facebook. And I post and support friends and allies on LinkedIn.

@skavish "yeah, slavery is bad, but it's there. So might as well exploit some".
Have some spine and take responsibility for what you believe, or else you're fuckin responsible. What a child.
AI is a human thing, not a fucking necessity.
ah yes, using an ai coding tool is basically owning slaves. perfectly reasonable comparison.
i never said ai was a necessity. i said it's not going away. but apparently moral outrage is a substitute for an actual argument. good luck with that.
Kind of a broad #ActivityPub question, for platforms implementing groups in the #Fediverse
We see maybe 2 or 3 different use-cases for how groups are leveraged in the Fediverse today:
So, I guess my question is: let's say your instance has an index of known remote groups. You just want to show discussion groups, not PeerTube accounts or Flipboard collections. How do you denote the discussion groups, and filter out the rest?
@deadsuperhero@fedizen.net you can approximate something a little bit using duck-typing, but it is fairly unreliable.
e.g. WordPress implemented postingRestrictedToMods, because it's a blog, and the public can't make new blog posts (
) so you could filter out group actors that way.
But... as @skavish@welley.social says, we'd need something new to distinguish. Any particular reason you don't want the non-discussion-groups?
