These are the people building the Fediverse!

My Dad sold street furniture (bollards, benches, litter bins, planters, playground equipment, etc..) to councils, local authorities. He travelled a lot and took a lot of photos of the equipment to show how it looked once installed.
I found this pic buried in a dozen envelopes of photos of bins and signs and fencing.
@zebulonmysterioso the Martian in Woking! And, if you look carefully, just hidden behind the foreground bollard is a crashed cylinder embedded in the pavement. Easily the best thing about Woking :)
I decided to take a break, because coding became a competition with myself, releasing quickly to satisfy people using #Fedilab and my other projects.
But that is the trap. I gave a lot, hoping people would keep enjoying my projects.
I was looking at it the wrong way. People here are not waiting for results. Building fast and creating things before even suggesting them is not how it works. I should have understood it sooner :)
Definitely taking that break.

This forum is a little hard to find
I can imagine that many people working on the Fediverse would find value this forum as a gathering place. However, it seems to be a little hard to find.
I was just in a conference discussion (at FediForum). I wanted to paste link to this forum into the chat, but I couldn't write it from memory. I searched, but could not find it.
I think this forum is a useful tool for the W3C social web working group, but the https://www.w3.org/groups/wg/social/tools/ page does not link to here.
Maybe the "community" vs "working group" distinction is important? The https://www.w3.org/groups/cg/socialcg/tools/ page has a link, "Discussion Forum
activitypub.rocks", but that links to https://activitypub.rocks/ not to https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/ .
The front page of https://activitypub.rocks/ lacks navigation menus. The page visible when I first visit the link is a promotion of ActivityPub itself. Links to related material, including this forum, are not visible until you scroll down. A set of navigation menus might be a more discoverable way to present the links that are in the "Hey implementers" section below. At the very least, a sentence at the top saying that this page is links to ActivityPub info would be an improvement.
SEO: when I search for "social web community group forum" or even "W3C social web community group forum", this URL is not in the first page of results.
One search result is https://github.com/swicg/forums . I realise that is the repo for a particular task force, but it would be helpful for the readme file there to include a link to this forum, for people who wandered in mistakenly.
What is a good way to make improvements? Submit a pull request to the https://github.com/swicg/activitypub.rocks repo?
This forum and activitypub.rocks website share a domain, for historical reasons, but otherwise are not related.

Yes, I believe that github repository is the right place to ask about the website.
@evan i think the fep is missing a "motivation" section. (for example, if the motivation is to track causality chains, something like inReplyTo -- or latestPublicPostId -- might be better, where you can thread the causality by post id)
@robey You should write that FEP!
BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG, BONG
Fuck, those shitty AI-powered engagement farming accounts that reply with the same *recite your post + ask dumb follow-up question* structure have reached mastodon (dot social, not our instance yet, thankfully)
In #Mitra can I block a spam account from reacting to my posts?
@bmcd You can mute an account, have you tried that?
@Gargron @TechConnectify Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere else, but Tru-Tone Lights in the US makes cozy LED light sets that look like incandescent. We've had a bunch of strings of lights from them on our Christmas tree for years. https://tru-tone.com
(No, I don't work for them!)
@jezlyn @TechConnectify It's covered on Tech Connections' channel. However, I'm in the UK. Importing lights that expect 120V into 240V is very bothersome.
@Gargron I mean, more of a fire hazard than other "traditional glow" lights which may not heat up as much
@callan They're still LEDs.
@Gargron Could they be a fire hazard?
@callan In the sense that any electrical appliance is a fire hazard?

Can confirm, we took one of the covers off, and all of the lightbulbs are warm white underneath colored glass. They sell them under the Fern Lighting brand in the Garden Centres.
@hypolite Interesting, with the update that button is now off. Very strange.
@hypolite Interesting, because I can click all I want on that button and it never turns off. The tracking prevention buttons work fine. Looked at help and I'm on:
8.2.4133.47 (Official Build) (64-bit)
So I'm upgrading to .83 to see if it changes that.
CSV be like,,,,,,,,,
@hypolite On this screen the Blue Check box next to "Enable VPN" is checkable?
@ChuckMcManis Yes, and I unchecked it on Windows 11 as well on Vivaldi version 8.2.4133.83 as well.

I treated #Pixelfed unfairly, and I sincerely apologize. Two days ago, they announced a new API documentation website coming later this month, and I missed it even though they kindly pinged the Fedilab account (I was logged out). My mistake.
I will leave my previous post (quoted) visible so the context stays clear.
I guess I still really need this break. I have been frustrated and unable to focus, and that is exactly why I am taking it.
Sorry again.

Thinking about how Quote Posts work here. If I quote post something to add context and then a year later the server has shutdown that I had QPed from then my context I was referring to is no longer pointing to anything and wouldn't make sense. Sometimes that's fine but sometimes its an important thing that's happening in the world that I am adding context to in my own historical record so having that history depend on an external server staying up really hinders memory.
@liaizon I've been on record saying that we should differentiate more clearly between quoting as journalism or academic discussion vs. quoting as “I found a cool post, please go interact with it.”
FEP-044f quotes are pretty clearly built for the second variant, which is how their safety features make sense. Twitter quote posts AIUI started as the first and morphed into the second. I think Hubzilla and Friendica do their quotes more in line with the first idea.
