These are the people building the Fediverse!

@Kingu I encourage everyone to cheap more at video games. Make those root kits obsolete and play in whatever way you want.

Oh I have **thoughts** on this.
It's a very good read. Highly recommended. I'll see about getting to some thoughts on it later.

Understanding Community-Level Blocklists in Decentralized Social Media
"To understand how moderators perceive and utilize community-level blocklists and what additional support they may need, we examine social media communities that run Mastodon, an open-source microblogging software built on the ActivityPub protocol. We conducted (1) content analysis of the community-level blocklist ecosystem, and (2) semi-structured interviews with twelve Mastodon moderators."
@phnt Mastodon is in danger
I think these are fine.
Over the weekend, one of our Mirlo Stewards thought that they might quietly celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first solo album, but Mirb’s got other ideas and we’re going to share it with you for #MirloMondays!
This is the breathtaking “No Answers No” by @MOWUKIS. Find it on Mirlo. 💿🐦⬛You might also recognise the third track from watching @TIBtv...

Specifically:
* Apple Music: https://www.apple.com/apple-music/
* Google Music: https://music.youtube.com
My favorite: https://tidal.com (who has a policy of labeling AI generated music and blocking it from earning streaming royalties; they also pay more than spotify).
Don't give spotify money. There are so many better alternatives right now.
I've now seen multiple people who seem confused at how our government works.
So let's talk about it.
Assuming the democrats win both the House and the Senate we can expect investigations and fighting of the administration, but what we _cannot_ expect are:
1. Veto proof majorities.
2. Undoing the filibuster. This is in the cards **if and only if we have the House, Senate, and Presidency** at the same time. Otherwise don't expect it to happen because it basically wouldn't be more than marginally useful to remove.
3. A successful removal from office. We _might_ get an impeachment, we might not, but a removal requires 2/3rds of the Senate, which we won't (can't) have.
4. Completely blocking everything that the president is going to do. The executive is immensely powerful and the SCOTUS is helping it become more so: congress has limited power in this situation. We can have hearings and investigations, but actual action requires more votes than we'll have.
The fascists are not going to vote against their own, so we aren't going to win giant victories here.
I think it _is_ reasonable to expect, and to fight your representatives on:
* Not sacrificing the rights of a group (e.g., muslims, immigrants, trans people) to secure cooperation
* Not passing inane legislation to make Trump feel good.
But that said: your representatives are _your_ representatives. Not "The Democrats™" This is not a unified fascist party in the same way as the Republicans, this is a group that has myriad opinions within it. So don't be surprised if some tools break ranks here. The goal is to yell at your representatives sufficiently that they can keep the tools in line.
And if your representative _is_ one of those tools?
Have at.
My girlfriend:
"How is it that you knew when I woke up this morning?"
Me: "I'm psychic."
(pause)
Me: "Just kidding. I just have really good intuition."
(actual answer: I didn't, we just woke up at around the same time)
@donelias Coming soon to a United States near you.
Belgian journalism cooperative Apache is going to be testing Bonfire as a space for its readers, inspired by #Jacobin work in Germany.
Independent media building community spaces where readers and journalists can meet, participate, and connect across the fediverse. This is the kind of social web we want to support.
Their ongoing diary of leaving big tech is worth a read (in Dutch): apache.be/vaarwel-big-tech
@grigs @cwebber I think it simply came down to what kind of show they wanted to have. They ended up having a lighthearted story about creating a social network that matched their nostalgia for an earlier era of the Internet.
While I think that was fun, I don't think it ended up addressing some important issues, like: what could a social network do for their shows, Search Engine and Hard Fork? What would success look like? How could they get there?
@cwebber @evan yeah, something felt off about their entire #forkiverse experiment and then they drew larger conclusions about the fediverse that didn’t seem supported by their experiment.

Oué.
Ça je sais, en vré.
Et c'est pourquoi j'ai du mal à lire que la dette mondiale monte sans récession puis entendre l'argument de justification d'austérité par la dette.
Le problème n'est pas le remboursement.
OK, who are the experts on #DistributedSystems on the #Fediverse? There is a new #FEP for implementing a scalar #LogicalClock in #ActivityPub, #FEP4f18.
I'm especially interested in mitigations for Byzantine faults in the system; right now, it's kind of hand-wavy based on value and trust heuristics:
Meat proxy as a service.
@bagder I'm impressed with your politeness replying to such a blatantly disrespectful person :D
