Slightly annoyed by the state of Matrix bots, and the fact that the best way to get certain integrations working might be to set up a Discord chat, use a Discord bot, and bridge it to Matrix.
Husband. Cofounder. Somewhat ridiculous. The clump of brain cells responsible for Fedizen, We Distribute, and Brands.Town. Goofy but lovable, passionate about many things.

@Strypey Hey, happy to answer these questions!
-
Yes, we would absolutely be happy to host Fediverse.Party!

Overall, the server and service is stable, but you might occasionally see changes to the UI, adjustments to features, or bugs. Although Bonfire supports a limited portion of the Mastodon API, client support is pretty limited for right now. Tusky works, though.
-
Bonfire strictly supports ActivityPub, for better or worse. Not having compatibility with Diaspora may or may not be a deal-breaker, but Diaspora is the only platform that doesn't implement a common protocol used by almost everybody. With that said, Bonfire should work well with Bridgy Fed, so you'll at least get ATproto for free, and they might implement other protocols in the near future.
Let me know if you're still interested in this. 😁

We're going through some infrastructure changes, and moving our social account over to Fedizen! We still plan on digging into the PeerTube server database sometime this week.
@Strypey Welcome!
@evan@cosocial.ca Yes. Someone has to do that work, and advocacy should never be limited to just our own spaces.
Client Testing
Keeping an ongoing list of mobile and Web clients to see what works, and what doesn't. We will try to add more over time, especially as we try to find possible "best-fit" apps.
Android
Tusky: mostly works, although there's occasional floods of invisible posts coming from PeerTube. Avatars, timelines, replies, and notifications all seem to function normally.
Moshidon: attempting to sign in results in the client not recognizing Fedizen as a Mastodon instance.
Web
Phanpy: Fails to recognize Fedizen as a Fediverse instance. Strange, because this works with other Bonfire instances just fine.
Earlier last month I saw a post from @gotosocial mentioning they're looking for donations. And it hit me that there should be a better way to know what projects, that are building blocks for The #Fediverse, are looking for funding. Additionally, I'd love to know the progress and the overall health of Fediverse project funding.
So I got to tinkering on a site that shows what projects need funding, how much, the progress, and tried to show how your personal donation could help.
Right now Fediverse funding is a black box. Over time I have no idea if these projects as a whole are doing better or worse. If people are donating more or less. There are no trends. Because realistically, if we see that all projects are losing support or something, it'd be great to work together to figure it out. It would also be great to see if as The Fediverse grows, if financial support grows as well.
So I put together https://fedifunding.org as an experiment.
This page might not be helpful, or projects don't want to be listed, or nobody actually cares about the financial health of things. But I cared. And I hoped if people saw trends and who needs what, and what their donations can do, that people would be more likely to provide support. A flawed hypothesis, maybe. Or perhaps adding this visibility centrally is something that projects wouldn't appreciate.
I didn't know at the time that #Owncast was losing our infrastructure sponsor, and when I mentioned it, people did donate, and it's awesome for everyone to be able to see that support visually.
So if you rely on something for your Fediverse experience and see it's trying to reach a funding goal, hopefully you'll notice.
Just an idea to help all of these projects that we rely on so heavily to become sustainable.
@skavish@welley.social Yeah, I kind of figured as such. Thanks for the tip!
Incidentally, I've never heard of Welley before, nice to see another platform in the space!
@ArmouredWizard@dice.camp Hey, that's really awesome. Can totally relate on unfinished projects, I've been doing that for about 20 years now. It's still a great experience, and every new effort teaches me something and gets me a little closer to making what I want.
My latest work has involved exploring 3D in Godot for the very first time. It's exciting and a bit intimidating, but I'm learning a lot! I hope to put out some short horror games as I continue to experiment.
If you're a #gamedev, and love to share what you're working on, feel free to like / boost this post and maybe tell me about your projects! I'd love to see more of that stuff in my feed. ♥️
Know any content creators with a premium membership platform or any kind of community platform that'd be interested in taking a survey?
This data will be useful in helping Fediverse developers pinpoint tools and features they're currently missing.
Please feel free to fill out yourself and share with other creators! Thank you!
Kind of a broad #ActivityPub question, for platforms implementing groups in the #Fediverse
We see maybe 2 or 3 different use-cases for how groups are leveraged in the Fediverse today:
- Traditional Discussion Groups: Lemmy-style communities, NodeBB forum categories, basically a moderated Community Actor where people send activities to the group, and the group actor relays them to all group members.
- Publication Groups: WordPress-style, the Group Actor represents a publication, and individual Actors serve as the article authors.
- Structured Account Groups: PeerTube-style, the Account Actor is the parent object that delegates everything for Child Actors representing individual channels owned by that account.
So, I guess my question is: let's say your instance has an index of known remote groups. You just want to show discussion groups, not PeerTube accounts or Flipboard collections. How do you denote the discussion groups, and filter out the rest?
@DekOfTheYautja@social.vivaldi.net Yeah, we're on the same page. I don't mind for paying for a handful of good services, provided that there's a guarantee that they have what I'm interested in. So many of them phase out the good stuff in favor of their own in-house productions, so there's not a lot of confidence that a certified classic is going to live in one place forever.
I have a Kodi / Jellyfin hybrid box hooked up in my bedroom. I have a number of nitpicks, but being able to watch my own stuff is great! Slowly getting it set up to work with the rest of the network in my house.
I'm completely obsessed with Peep Show. It's a brilliant look at daily life from people who are short-sighted, self-destructive, and have only the worst kind of self-awareness.
It's deeply uncomfortable, explores the weirdness of our own private thoughts and expressions, and is incredibly funny.
@kevin@mastodon.km6g.us That reminds me of trying to find certain seasons of Community. 😂
@AugierLe42e@diaspodon.fr Yeah, it's the only logical conclusion. Build your own media library at home.
Seriously, though, just let me watch my shows. It shouldn't be like pulling teeth.
The sad truth about media streaming is that everything is split up between services so much now that it's impossible to watch everything you want to. It's the most annoying thing in the world to be told "I'm sorry, but your bundle of overpriced subscriptions do not apply, and will not get you this show that you've been looking for."
Also, depending on your choice of operating system, there's a high chance you can't even use the best dedicated app to watch it, and get a downgraded experience in the browser.
I've been building a Steam Machine / Kodi Box for this very scenario. As a final twist of the knife, it's very difficult to find the kind of media you're looking for for individual purpose, so there's a high likelihood you will have to pirate everything.
Are there any #Fediverse platforms like @Castopod@podlibre.social in active development? Not implying that Castopod is unmaintained, just interested in exploring options.
I'd love to find something that can simultaneously support podcasts and video clips excerpts side by side. Being able to do it all from one account / one app would be a huge deal.
