fwiw people "rewriting it in rust" has been an annoying pain point for years and suddenly the sloppers doing it is nothing new.
having one viable implementation is nothing new. this is true of most languages. you can say that's bad, sure, but bootstrapping won't magically fix itself just because you think it's important.
the project has AI supporters on it, sure, but the overwhelming majority of us are tired of them, the endless waves of slop, etc. and it would be unfair to pretend that the project itself endorses slop, only that progress on that front has stalled and companies pay their employees to fuck shit up at a rate 100x faster than they pay us to deal with it.
sure, you can say the project is compromised by having corporate sponsors, and I'd agree. but these sponsors have less control over the project than you think, both in reality and in the actual bylaws of the Rust Foundation. the project has a unilateral veto over the Foundation's corporate members, even though it would rather not use it, and we are rapidly approaching the point where there are more people funded through corporate donations to non-profit orgs than direct employment at corporations.
so, if you want to complain about Rust, feel free. but if you wanna talk about corporate slop takeovers, take a jab at Go or TypeScript instead of Rust. we're paid by companies, not owned by and beholden to companies. and the reason why they prefer Rust over those languages is only because it turns out the "get good" mindset of programming language design is bad actually
