Fedi hive mind please help

For my first ~4 years here, all I had to do to read #alttext was hover the word 'ALT' in the image

Sometime in the last month, that stopped working, and nothing I do allows me to see the alt text. I've tried opening the image but... no dice.

I read Mastodon in a browser (safari) on a MacBook Air and all my software is up to date

On of the great joys of Fedi is reading all of the wonderfully decriptive and funny alt text and I'd like it back please.

Help! Thanks

I just tried this out in my Safari (version 27.2) on macOS Tahoe 26.6.

I went to this post:

The ALT button on the image is at the bottom right corner. I had to hover, then click on, the ALT square for the text to appear.
