Hi all JUNIOR researchers (by which I mean PhD students and postdocs) in TCS & math: have any of you been affected by AI companies generating results that supersede your own, or by senior researchers using AI to do the same? I plan to organize a Zoom call to hear collectively what we are thinking
about the future of research in this bizarre rich-gets-richer environment and discuss what we might be able to figure out together. This would be more of a connecting and brainstorming session about what we are supposed to do at the beginning of our careers. Let me know if you would like to join
via e-mail or DM or simply respond here. PS. If this hasn't happened to you yet, one day it will. PPS. I don't care whether you yourself are using AI or not: if you are a junior r affected by the combination of AI and institutional hierarchies or disparities in expertise, I'd like to hear from you.
Senior researchers in particular: please repost. Senior researchers who may find my speaking up unusual: I hope you can see this as more than a matter of avoiding being scooped. So much room for intellectual play in research and this strange race to be first takes away so much.
