Apple’s Siri Recap feature lets users secretly document every conversation they have, EFF”s Mario Trujillo told @BloombergLaw. “If we’re conscious that our words or actions are being recorded, it really could change how we interact with each other in ways that I’m not sure we want.” https://news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/apple-watchs-new-siri-recap-feature-challenges-privacy-norms

@eff Sounds to me like it might be illegal in many places, the same as a hidden tape recorder would be. Currently, in the US, 37 states are "one-party consent", meaning you can do this without notice. Laws in 13 other states vary, and in some of them, that can a be jailable offence. If more than one state is involved, the more restrictive one is binding on all parties.
This is just a really, really stupid idea, Apple.
He is SO CLOSE to getting why this is a terrible idea.
@eff @BloombergLaw In how many jurisdictions is single-party recording actually illegal?
@eff @BloombergLaw I wonder when it will become the social norm to consent for being overheard by such AI devices?
I'm very unconformable when in the presence of 'smart' devices. To hear someone say "Hey Siri" and receive a response makes me immediately want to leave the room.
