In a night of sweeping change, Asheville elected Kim Roney as its new mayor, Democrat Jamie Ager captured a Western North Carolina congressional seat held by Republicans since 2011, and former Gov. Roy Cooper won North Carolina's closely watched U.S. Senate race. The Democratic victories in Western North Carolina Tuesday night were part of a broader wave that swept the country and handed Democrats control of the U.S. Senate and close to a House majority,  as anger over the war in Iran, affordability and corruption fueled Republican losses.  “I am honored, I am humbled, I am proud, to be the next United States Representative for Western North Carolina,” Ager told a cheering crowd that packed the convention room of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
