A small fly seen side on, standing on the edge of a yellowing ivy leaf. The fly has a large spherical droplet of water hanging from its mouth. The fly's head has large brick red compound eyes separated by a wide grey and black section. The antennae are speckled grey and black, and the palps are also black. The thorax is dark grey with many strong black bristles. The abdomen is light grey on the top side, with the tergites separated by thin white bands, with a yellow patch on the side of the first one. The underside is white with very five dark veins, turning darker towards the tip. The calypters are yellow and amber, and the legs are black. The wings are seen edge-on, showing iridescence, and have a bit of amber at their roots.
