a major reason AI/machine learning/LLMs is not technologically or politico-economically equivalent to past automation is that it is impossible without vast, vast, vast amounts of stolen labor.
if you had told me at some point in my career that everything i was doing would someday be used to make me unemployable at the age of 45, i would have stopped fucking doing it. it turns out, i wasn't getting paid enough to do that work because my career would end right when i hit middle age. they fucking stole my labor, the labor of millions of us, used it to replace us, and are pretending they came up with a technological solution all thanks to their big brains.
bull fucking shit.
they didn't invent a machine that could write. their machine wouldn't work without all the millions of hours of labor put into the "data." they **stole our work** and are leasing it back to our employers at fractions of a cent of what we used to get paid.
i spent 20yrs writing and translating professionally. when i worked for publications, each article went through 2-3 editors. when i translated, each translation went through a reviser and editor. the AI companies now call it "data" but proper grammar, elegant analogy, clear word choice, proper spelling, and correct punctuation didn't just **happen**, we fucking did it. it was work, done by a **lot** of people who are now unemployed.
