Protest Thread #135: Praise Be!
Today my bridge troll pals and some people from other groups got together for a Handmaid's march downtown. The goal was to make a spectacle to remind people to VOTE.
When we were planning, I was like "I'm down for this, but are costumes going to be provided? My taco might be a bit out of place." Red Handmaid robes and white bonnets were indeed provided, although for a few of the shorter women they had to be hastily hemmed up with safety pins.
Three men were with the group, two pushing carts with big speakers to get attention with music. One went at the front and one went at the back as we marched along in pairs, our heads down as in the book/show. The playlist started out very somber, but became more hopeful as we went along the two mile route we planned. I think that was a great reflection of how our experience has been protesting: at first we showed up not knowing if we were all going to be arrested or shot.
