Was having a conversation with a friend and came to a conclusion: The problem with Patreon is there's a "hump" you have to get over where below $N the Patreon comes with obligations, but is not making enough money yet to fund you to meet the obligations. Therefore Patreon should have a mode, or there should be a Patreon/Kickstarter fusion somewhere, where people pledge to pay you $Y a month but it doesn't start withdrawing until the total pledge amount to the project goes over $N

@Cheeseness @mcc That is indeed a great idea! It might even be better than the Kickstarter model, which occasionally bankrupts creators who have priced just one of their rewards at slightly below what the cost turns out to be. "I have a million backers! I'm rich... wait... no, actually I'm ruined"
@mcc That would be great. I feel like recurring "kickstarter" style crowdfunding options would be great.
Not quite the same, but until yesterday, Patreon had a billing model where people could pledge per creation, so supporters only got charged when you released something. I'd always intended to switch to that and scale my works to match the support I'd received if needed. Felt like a good way of making sure everybody's up front and has opportunity to back out if things aren't going as expected
