Hah - define 'dinner'?!
Some would have it as a synonym for 'lunch', which I thought was odd until I realised that my parents' generation used to talk about 'school dinners', so yeah apparently some groups of people equate 'dinner' with 'lunch'.
Others would conflate it with 'supper', although most rational people understand that supper is a later dish which comes after dinner and shortly before bedtime 🙂
Oh 'Tea' is easy.
Mid-morning, everyone needs a bit of a break, so you'd have 'Elevenses', or if you were posh, maybe 'Morning Tea'. Then in the afternoon, after a nice afternoon in the garden or whatever, there would be 'Afternoon Tea' - I think around 4pm or so.
@bytebro @gabbywheels @ai6yr Made it to 3:30 but it is definitely tea time now. And a cookie.
@bytebro @gabbywheels @ai6yr That whole afternoon tea (crustless sandwiches, scones, etc.) thing was for the upper crust. They weren't going to have supper until 10 o'clock or so, and they got hungry around 4 p.m. I get hungry around 4, and I make dinner. Which is why I already have pans in the oven; I don't care what the clock says. We'll eat when it's done.
You could declare it to be dinnertime by executive fiat. Who's to stop you?
I'm actually going to do dinner as soon as I can manage on this precise principle.
@ai6yr it's pitch dark and the cat has been marching around the house for an hour wondering wtf is wrong with me and why am I not producing dinner 🙄
@ai6yr Brain: it is bedtime. Spirit: 🥱 Id: buuuut I could just scroll through one more toot…
@ai6yr 😊
