Out of curiosity I've been poking around pricing what various components for my merephone might cost...

At a glance it looks like all the individual pieces are at most a couple dollars. This could add up, but I should be able to deliver something very cheap.

If it weren't for cellular modems! These will be necessary to make it compatible with existing phones, but to the extent their prices are public they're expensive! SIgh.
