In 1928, Belgian businessman Alfred Loewenstein was the third richest man in the world. On July 4 of that year, during a flight from England to Belgium on board his private plane, he went to the rear to use the bathroom. That was the last time anyone saw him alive.
Loewenstein's plane, a Fokker F.VII, was designed with a main cabin for passengers connected to an access passageway running rearwards. The passageway had doors on either side. The one on the right led to the bathroom. The one on the left was the main entrance (and exit) of the plane.
When other passengers went to see what was taking Loewenstein so long, they found the bathroom empty and the main entrance door hanging open.
Loewenstein's body was discovered near Boulogne two weeks later.
@jalefkowit a rich man with a plane with poor safety features, a rich man with a submarine with poor safety features…hmm…we still need a rich man with a car with poor safety and a rich man with a rocket with poor safety…I know just the men for the job! 🤭
