Happy Halloween π»
I was just gonna share some illustrations of deep-sea creatures for Halloween but realised that what we are doing to the ocean is much more terrifying.
No 1: The most powerful El NiΓ±o event in recorded history, with serious consequences for ecosystems and communities around the world. It's a natural event but we've managed to make the consequences a whole lot worse by heating up the planet.
No. 2: There is push to start deep-sea mining, even though we've barely explored these ecosystems, let alone understood them and the consequences.
No. 3: And just yesterday, another round of Antarctic conservation talks ended without agreement on new marine protected areas or stronger protections for Antarctic krill.
That's 10 years without a new marine protected area in the Southern Ocean.
Anyway, here are some scary facts with some wonderful weird deep-sea creatures I illustrated for the #GlobalRewildingAlliance.
