"Nothing is ever, ever allowed to grab, alter or surrender focus until five seconds after I've stopped typing, ever" is the number one nonexistent, OS level feature I want from modern computing.

I was updating my computer system software in the background, typing in another window

Something from the updater took focus and when I pushed space, it pushed whatever button was first in whatever it was that popped up

I don't know what I just did

@mhoye @researchfairy GNOME actually prohibits background focus stealing!

(which lots of people endlessly complain about but well)

@valpackett @mhoye @researchfairy Yes, because it feels crazy to start an app and then just get a notification that it has started. People almost always want the apps they start to be visible and in focus.

Having there be a tiny delay between typing and a new window being in focus/accept input, especially if it's a dialog box, is a great idea. Always having to switch to the app you just now actively decided to launch is not.
