Pro-democracy plaintiffs keep filing lawsuits to keep up with Trump regime’s ongoing election interference. I don’t see any legacy media reporting comprehensively on the daily encroachments by the regime or pro-democracy plaintiffs’ efforts to block them. There’s a massively important news story here that is getting covered only piecemeal. 1/ #LawFedi

In this thread, I’m going to use a lawsuit filed yesterday on behalf of California election workers to illustrate how coordinated the Trump regime’s onslaught is and how the pro-democracy bar is well-aware of that.
I note at the outset that this is not normal. We cannot have free and fair elections in the United States if lawyers must work round the clock to safeguard elections from the federal government to close ballot access and disrupt the counting of millions of Americans’ votes. 2/
Yesterday, the unions representing California election workers and voting rights organizations sued the Trump regime over its escalating efforts to prevent the lawful administration of the election and the legally required ballot counting. On 10/29, the Trump DOJ directed federal prosecutors to pursue criminal subpoenas of state and local election officials in CA. It’s the latest step to disenfranchise lawful CA voters under the discredited banner of preventing noncitizen voting. 3/
The complaint is available at https://protectdemocracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/seiu-et-al-v-doj.pdf. It details how this latest directive fits in the larger Trump regime effort to scare poll workers and election officials into not counting votes. The goals are twofold. First, just pure disenfranchisement. Second, to produce delay, confusion, and uncertainty in states where Democrats will gain seats in Congress. If you scare the vote counters into paralysis, the outcome of the election remains in limbo. 4/
In Bush v. Gore, the 2000 Supreme Court case that threw the Presidency to George W. Bush, Bush used the time it would take for Florida’s to count (recount) votes cast to force Florida to award its electoral votes to Bush. In other words, by arguing that counting would take too long, Bush got the Supreme Court to de facto award the win to Bush. 5/
Now, the Trump regime is laying the groundwork for delay in counting in California and other states, positioning itself to run a similar play to the Roberts Court. 6/
All of the Trump election interference has the same twofold purposes: disenfranchise voters and lay the groundwork to have the Roberts Court de facto decide control of Congress in favor of Republican Fascism. This is why the Trump regime is sending 1000 DoJ monitors to polls around the county, why it is threatening to seize ballots, etc. 7/
The idea is to deter eligible voters from showing up to vote, then to create grounds to argue that the voting that occurred was improper and to try to withhold ballots from being counted so as both to negate lawful votes and delay results from being certified. 8/
NOTA BENE: Every time you learn of a way the Trump regime is involving itself in the administration of the current U.S. Election, look for how that tactic not only is aimed at reducing voter participation but also at how it is aimed at disrupting states’ post-Election-Day efforts to count ballots and certify results. 9/
What pro-democracy plaintiffs are trying to do now is to get pre-Election-Day injunctions against each of the Trump regime tactics, to protect the post-Election-Day counting and certification. Thus, the suit seeking to stop the Trump DOJ effort from its threat of criminal action against poll works and election administrators and officials, a threat meant to scare them into delaying counting and setting aside lawfully cast ballots. 10/
See also the lawsuit by Schumer, Jeffries, Nevada Democratic Party, DSCC, DCCC, and DGA to stop sending letters to state election officials demanding they segregate and not count ballots based on a bogus list of supposed noncitizen voters compiled by the Trump regime. 11/
As people who read my posts already know, in NM, where I live, my organization, Land of Action, has been doing election watching. Having lots and lots of authorized people viewing elections is one way to have a deep well of evidence that elections have been conducted properly, and that therefore, there should be NO delays in counting ballots and certifying results. 12/
The bigger the margin of victory for Democratic and progressive Independent candidates, the more impervious their wins will be to disruptions or delays in counting ballots and certifying results. 14/
