Pro-democracy plaintiffs keep filing lawsuits to keep up with Trump regime’s ongoing election interference. I don’t see any legacy media reporting comprehensively on the daily encroachments by the regime or pro-democracy plaintiffs’ efforts to block them. There’s a massively important news story here that is getting covered only piecemeal. 1/ #LawFedi

In this thread, I’m going to use a lawsuit filed yesterday on behalf of California election workers to illustrate how coordinated the Trump regime’s onslaught is and how the pro-democracy bar is well-aware of that.
I note at the outset that this is not normal. We cannot have free and fair elections in the United States if lawyers must work round the clock to safeguard elections from the federal government to close ballot access and disrupt the counting of millions of Americans’ votes. 2/
Yesterday, the unions representing California election workers and voting rights organizations sued the Trump regime over its escalating efforts to prevent the lawful administration of the election and the legally required ballot counting. On 10/29, the Trump DOJ directed federal prosecutors to pursue criminal subpoenas of state and local election officials in CA. It’s the latest step to disenfranchise lawful CA voters under the discredited banner of preventing noncitizen voting. 3/
The complaint is available at https://protectdemocracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/seiu-et-al-v-doj.pdf. It details how this latest directive fits in the larger Trump regime effort to scare poll workers and election officials into not counting votes. The goals are twofold. First, just pure disenfranchisement. Second, to produce delay, confusion, and uncertainty in states where Democrats will gain seats in Congress. If you scare the vote counters into paralysis, the outcome of the election remains in limbo. 4/
In Bush v. Gore, the 2000 Supreme Court case that threw the Presidency to George W. Bush, Bush used the time it would take for Florida’s to count (recount) votes cast to force Florida to award its electoral votes to Bush. In other words, by arguing that counting would take too long, Bush got the Supreme Court to de facto award the win to Bush. 5/
