Last used Servo a couple years ago, primarily used it by building it as a library (which means no mach, no uv). As *far as I know*, verso is dead and the recommended frontend is servoshell. I'm building that.
Thoughts:
- Recommended buildscript does use uv. Maybe a problem if you're using servo as the basis for a hashtag-noAI system

@simon I built it without uv when I built without mach, so I think that's true. By the way, are you with servo? I've been getting a weird error message from mach, I was about to take it to the Zulip.
@mcc yes i joined Igalia recently to work (again) on Servo. Zulip is a good place for weird error messages
Oh that last post might not have made so much sense. Let me explain
This is a "true alternative" browser, outside the Firefox or Chromium stacks, like Ladybird but older. It was originally a Firefox project but Firefox didn't want it so now it's a standalone org. I give them five dollars a month.
Making a browser is hard especially when your budget is $5/month so they are working their way through the web stack s l o w l y. I'm checking in to see how far they've got.

This is a command-line/TUI servo frontend, like w3m. It looks great. It is one of the worst project names I've ever heard.
Servo build steps, 20261030

Carboxyl build steps:
- `cargo build --release --locked`, then it's in `./target/release/carboxyl`. At this point to proceed you MUST click in the URL bar to do anything
(Rly? It's not possible to use carboxyl AT ALL without a terminal mouse extension?— CTRL-C only kbd input I've found. Infuriatingly NEITHER carbonyl NOR carboxyl seem to have written a user guide)

@tezoatlipoca notice it is based on a Chromium command line browser which is more fully featured
@mcc I checked in on their android apk a couple weeks ago after a couple months away and you can definitely feel the improvement. Definitely a demonstrator more than a browser to use day to day (no tab support), but the rendering garbage in most sites is a lot less.
@mcc Servo is very promising. I've been using it to test web frontend stuff in my $dayjob.
@mcc I haven't checked in with servo in a while. Im sure they have a %complete dashboard somewhere, but is it functional enough that say you need a rudimentary web rendering engine for a project that isn't a comprehensive browser? (like an email client or local file browser for previewing .html files?)

@mcc i believe the build system should still work without uv. use any tool that reads pyproject.toml (or create a virtualenv with python/requirements.txt) then run ./mach as a python script (it’s polyglot with shell)
