The MacBook Touch is out not even one day and I'm already fighting with _tapGestureRecognized which sends a redundant focus request via _delayMakeFirstResponder when editing in an NSTableView, eating away typed characters if the user types fast enough.
Observable on #macos272 but not on Tahoe.
@todd I just tried this in Pastebot on macOS 27.2 and it works as expected (the edit window appears, and the sidebar doesn’t start editing). Looks like you’re safe from this (or already added some workarounds)
@fhe I haven’t done any workarounds for that issue yet. If you select a row first and then double click the textfield it edits the name and opens the edit sheet too (just tried it on 27.2).
@fhe well I guess I’m running a newer version of Pastebot so will have to go check against the latest production version to make sure. I assume you are running 3.1.2 and not a TestFlight build?
@fhe I just tried in the sidebar in Pastebot that has allowsTypeSelect enabled on 26.7.1. If I click on an editable textfield and quickly type it’ll jump to the matching row and then start editing the field I clicked on. I also have a doubleAction assigned in the outlineView so that could be the cause of the delay and the type select thing is a completely different bug. Not sure when all the gesture recognizers were added.
@todd Yes, this could be related: it looks like the focus request from _delayMakeFirstResponder needs to arrive first, otherwise the type selection triggers first.
In my tests, the NSTableView required a doubleAction for the issue to be reproducible. The behavior I observed in most cases was 1. entering the edit mode, 2. typing, and 3. edit mode was ended via the redundant focus request.

@fhe There’s also another bug I saw on AppKit-Abusers where double clicking a row will start editing if textfield is editable as well as performing the doubleAction. That one might have started on 27.0.
