Meanwhile I cackle with joy whenever I see a video of a foreigner suffering through “traditional” Icelandic food or go pale after ingesting a candy coated in ammonium chloride.
Or when they video a waterfall go sideways in a storm all “wtf!”
@baldur Ah! That's the salt used in salty liquorice. I knew it couldn't have been NaCl because of the taste!
@baldur ammonium chloride is the ingredient missing from most candy, they need to improve themselves
@baldur the only one who suffers when I eat hákarl is my wife, who I miss dearly when she makes me sleep on the couch.
@baldur First time I went to Iceland, I was determined to have an "authentic" experience and wanted to eat the fermented shark thing.
I am eternally grateful to the waiter who said "you know that dish predates refrigeration, and no one actually chooses to eat it anymore, right?"
I mean, I still ordered it, but added all of his recommendations and had a great meal.

@baldur one of my favorite moments was eating svið at a food hall and the non-Icelanders were a bit horrified and the Icelanders were all like “can I bring my kid over to see this? We don’t really eat this anymore!”
