Sometimes, in the aftermath of a tragedy, a reporter or an officiant will make a point of reading the names of the victims. I've thought, rationally, this is right & proper.
I write a newsletter for a non-profit and we realized that since a few military and ex-military people belong to the group, a few words recognizing the CFB Wainwright tragedy would be appropriate.
I found photos of the four service members who died at Wainright and wrote a few words expressing the group's gratitude for the membership of our military personnel.
I gotta tell you, naming the four while composing their photos left me stunned and horribly sad.
More than rationally appreciating the naming of the dead, I now more fully get it.
