i don't like how elections these days are so often either

hard-right asshole who doesn't care about democracy or human rights or rule of law VS a left-winger who also has their share of scandals and might enact illiberal laws (like banning smoking or gambling or passing some internet safety law that hurts both small and large websites) because they're popular

or

hard-right asshole who doesn't care about democracy or human rights or rule of law VS a centrist who is unlikely to solve any of the problems and can leave office unpopular enough for more people to vote for the hard-right asshole next time
