There’s an old story about a child picking up starfish that have washed up on the beach and putting them back in the ocean. A passerby points out this won’t matter, because there are thousands of them. The kid holds one up and says, “Well, it matters to this one.”
I grow tired of arguing with people on the internet who won’t save any starfish if we can’t save them all. Who willfully conflate “This won’t solve everything” with “This changes nothing.”

I feel like this gives "conservatives" a little too much credit towards having a consistent worldview -- e.g. why is "bad guy can still get gun" an argument against regulation, but "good person can still get gun" not an argument for it?
That said, this does match up a lot with observed behavior patterns (and I'm only halfway through watching it). The B&W thinking is one I've particularly noticed, as well as the tendency to care more about group solidarity than factual accuracy.
