Note 1: If it's a kink, there's pornography to serve it.

Note 2: It's a kink.

@neil omg it is a trope throughout the world in the context of all kinds of porn, from the lightest sitcom entries to the grimmest, darkest entries. It stands in for child porn. Children are dressed as adults, adults as children… plausible deniability for pedophilia.

@neil I don’t know but I heard two UK schoolgirls on the radio who have been part of raising this issue because of all the unwanted and horrible attention they get from adult men when wearing their uniforms to school

@neil I'd have said it was a Japanese thing if asked but I don't really know. I'm not a consumer of porn, not since my teens anyway

@neil in the US, school uniforms are common in private schools and in parochial schools. The US trope leans heavily to "naughty Catholic schoolgirl"

as @jessamyn says, it's largely to allude to youth without being too blatant

@neil
Not porn, but music videos seem to suggest school uniform is seen as fair game for sexy teens in many cultures.

Eg. Britney's "Baby One More Time" or B.O.N's "Boys" (the latter being a German boy band).

@neil
I definitely remember adults being creepy about Catholic school uniforms in both Argentina and the US. All the websites for adult funtime wear have at least one "schoolgirl uniform" of a plaid skirt and knee socks. I honestly thought it was more of a US thing until this very moment.

@neil Not to my knowledge - see the video for Hit Me Baby One More Time - I think the school uniform fetish is pretty widespread.

@neil I think it might be mostly a UK thing, also because of UK public schools, which in that way don't exist in most other western countries.

@neil I thought that was a Japanese thing?

Here's a paper about it that I came across from a quick search:-

@neil I see it in the US too occasionally. I think it's a way of basically semiotically referencing youth while not actually having stuff be too much like "this is an actual child" see also: things that reference "the babysitter" and that sort of thing.

@neil Hit Me Baby One More Time seemed to be US school uniform titillation

@neil I'm pretty sure it's a thing in Japan too. The thing both countries have in common is school uniforms, which they don't generally wear in the United States as far as I know.

@neil I have no idea, but putting children in uniforms is a particularly UK thing.

@neil The old St. Trinian's films come to mind as a trope.
