🧵 Today, Mehdi Hasan published an interview with Matt Yglesias, a blogger who is one of the most influential pundits on the Democratic leadership class.
The clip I'm posting here is probably one of the most revealing in the discussion. In it, Yglesias says that it was wrong for #Minnesota residents to oppose the Trump regime's murderous ICE raids because it was unpopular beforehand.
He has a monstrous worldview, and sadly, he's someone Democratic elites think is very smart.

Remember the Harris ad where the Republican women were tricking their husbands and voting Democratic. Turns out this ad really turned off minority voters and the GOP women voted for Trump anyway. Courting the mythical crossover voter is one if the worst mistakes a campaign can make.
@mastodonmigration @benroyce @mattsheffield Getting Liz Cheney on side broke her damned mind. That last few weeks of Harris and her team pivoting to court GOP women turned off more voters in the base and left than it attracted.

"political strategists" pushing this approach are rat poison for the democrats, and anyone listening to them is a clueless empty suit, or center right: not a democrat

If you are comfortable going either way, then you have no true convictions and that is just who you are.
@benroyce @mastodonmigration @mattsheffield I think that the Dem consultants who think this way are just trying to line their own pockets. If they can get paid a percentage of the money they raise as a commission, it is easiest for them to hit up rich people who might oppose the GOP on social issues (LGBT rights, abortion, marijuana) but who want to stay rich. To do that, they have to oppose the DSA folks.

this is the essential problem with centrist #democrats:
to win, they try to appeal to right wingers
right wingers are bigots and ignorants. they are not going to stop voting #GOP
and, by trying to appeal to right wingers, they lose the left, and lose the #election
the left is the base of the left. if you betray them, you lose. period
there is no center to appeal to. at least, not anymore in this godforsaken country
