@Misofist Yeah, but often he has the decency to stretch the paper out to 200 pages so you have some time to think about it between Ideas. Instead of having to stop and put the paper down for a bit between paragraphs
The one about spacelike Einstein signatures even has some yuri thrown in! To make it go down easy for you specifically one assumes
I considered ending the thread by explaining that anything which is published as a double column PDF is going to be the scariest shit you've ever read, because that means the authors know TeX, and that means they are going to take the intense suffering of using TeX out on you one way or the other. But then I thought about the poor innocent BlueSky users who are in the arts and potentially don't know what TeX is, and I thought, you know what, let them sleep a little longer.
@mcc I actually liked using LaTeX back when I used to have cause to do so 🤷♀️
@mcc That two column layout and those fonts are absolutely a warning.
Bonus points if the PDF is a scan of a photocopy of a fax of the original, which seems to be pretty common for older papers in my experience...
@mcc the only thing worse than TeX is trying to format anything in Word. Especially tables.
@petrillic *me, the happy beanie kid from the rage comic* I mostly use a copy of Apple Pages from 2015. It can do whatever
@mcc or they know indesign
@cerberus1746 I keep forgetting there are people who didn't bounce on Adobe when they went to a subscription model
@mcc I mean, there's also scribus and inkscape.
@mcc or as they say in Fronce, LaTeX <.<
(*looks up wikipedia before posting to check that I am making a computer joke correctly*)
@Sharksonaplane no, no, that's good, you nailed it
@Sharksonaplane INRIA is definitely a force in the world for making people use LaTeX
@mcc This is what makes Greg Egan such an intimidating author. Some of his "sci-fi stories" are actually secretly papers.
