I KINDA wish tracker and deskbar from BeOS/Haiku had been ported to XOrg at some point.
XFCE's panel has a mode that gets a little close but it's still not exactly it.
SOME of the early Haiku/OpenBeOS alternatives many many years ago; proposed BeOS API wrappers so that BeOS apps could run on the linux kernel; which would do something like this. However I think most of them all more or less died on the vine.
BUT really if im on BSD/linux without a usual DE, what I want is a deskbar experience, instead of what most minimalist panel apps offer; and a good spatial file manager that matches it. Im not REALLY after the whole BeOS API.
I mean I know I could just run Haiku; but sometimes one wants to have their cake and eat it too. #beos #haikuOS
@trashheap I have been switching DE on and off lately because I keep thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. Started with KDE, then XFCE, then GNOME for a long time, and now Niri of all things. At least we can mix and match applications from many sources. I'm not sure my setup would make much sense to anyone else.
