The late GOP Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican Rep. Joe Wilson and Democratic Rep. James Clyburn were both under investigation by the FBI for allegedly participating in a vast criminal bribery scheme in South Carolina. The evidence authorities had gathered included a confession from Martin Kao, CEO of a defense contractor, who said that his business model consisted of bribing officials in exchange for government contracts. “This is how much I want, and how much I am going to give you,” Kao remembered Graham saying. Then the FBI agents and prosecutor on the case were swept up in Donald Trump's purge of the Department of Justice. "Today, there is no one left to look into Kao’s explosive allegations, as the Trump administration has abandoned any pretense of prosecuting public corruption. The case is dead," writes the team at @ProPublica, who have resurrected it as part of a series of investigations.
