Re:
> Also, all color schemes come with light and dark mode.
I'm looking at the advanced mode's dark mode for blue right now, and whoever told you this is a 'dark mode' lied to you.
It's so bright.
Why are the majority panels bright and the side panel is the 'dark' bit? This is the inverse of what you want in a dark mode.
Feels like a hostile design choice. Just... *pinches bridge of nose* let us turn it off? Esp. rounded corners?
@DarkestKale @lumiworx @Mastodon It's not up to me. Please submit your feedback on community.joinmastodon.org.
@mellifluousbox @lumiworx @Mastodon You do realize that that does not even imply that you've done it *enough*, right? The article says that the update was designed using feedback mainly gathered in one week, which would be incredibly absurd for something with millions of daily users. Is that true?
Honestly the changes themselves don't sound *too* bad, but their presentation in this article is horrendous. It reads like it's from facebook. Boastful but also needy, belittling, and defensive.
When you (collectively) just literally announced 10 hours ago that there will be a "new community forum" dedicated to Mastodon feedback, and even while following the main Mastodon and several dev accounts, i don't recall seeing any mention that input was collected and put into a plan of what may come next.
Forgive me if I missed it, and seems I also missed any mention of what would be arriving and how/when feature feedback would be accepted for those coming changes.
@lumiworx I'm talking about the input process (Discovery Week), not the forum, which is really just one of many ways you can give feedback. You can read up on the product changes on our blog. Sorry you did not feel involved but we've been communicating about these very changes for months, in a much more transparent way than most projects. @Mastodon
@Mastodon I think it looks good, though I'm not sure what is gained by some of it so far (see below). But everyone's a critic and UX design is harder than it looks, so props to the crew here.
Wondering why the most-used navigational elements were moved to the left side, which as I understand it requires more manual dexterity (to wrangle mice and scrollwheels) just to communicate. Maybe we could add disableds and elders to the design crew so we don't inadvertently add useability barriers.

@Mastodon You need to give users the old theme as an option. The new one looks horrible. Too much white space and rounded corners are ugly. Thank goodness you didn't fall too deep into the ugly Google Material Design trap, although Mastodon is slowly turning into the dollar store version of it. Things looks like it is going to be harder for those with accessibility needs. I'm not looking forward to some of these elements with my Parkinson's. #Mastodon

@Mastodon I just hope it will work well with 1080p at 200% scaling (I have a bedroom tv PC setup, and my eyes aren't what they used to be!). Some sites are pretty bad for this.
@Mastodon please, add dark blur if the window to write new post is open on screen. It would be looking much more better by UX.
@Mastodon Please also add the option to not use a color scheme. My eyes don't handle color schemes very well.
@Mastodon the legibility looks quite bad to me and I wish to use the older more usable interface
hello everybody, welcome to our page
@Mastodon Gosto do design, das funcionalidades e, sobretudo, da proposta. Não vim sugerir nada, vim agradecer. Deve ser laborioso para os desenvolvedores promover ajustes que agradem aos usuários. 👋
@Mastodon i guess this is more incentive for my adhd ass to try out fedi clients (in addition to this depending on a monopoly browser i desperately want to ditch), i am aversed to this kind of modern design
@Mastodon It'd be nice if you stop flagging things as AI that are not AI without the user having any say in the matter. Otherwise, you're no better than Twitter.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon There is no functionality that flags anything "as AI" in Mastodon.
@Gargron @Mastodon Then explain to me how I have had over a dozen posts in one day deleted, with a notification from Mastodon, claiming that my content was AI? The decision said that I did not place an alert in my post that the content was AI. It wasn't. I appealed. I lost. My content was removed and never returned.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon That's not a function in Mastodon, that's human moderators making decisions.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon I'm not a moderator so it's pointless to argue with me but if it's not AI wouldn't it be easy to point out who was the artist who painted those pictures or who were the models who posed for them? That being said they clearly have the piss-coloured LLM tint on them so I don't know why you are pretending.
@Gargron @Mastodon I am talking about the links to my account on Royal Road, and the words that I have written to promote my novels. You're taking them down because of the book cover? That's stupid, and you're playing games here. There is nothing here that I am doing wrong. I don't make money off these books. You're being an asshole.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon As I said, I'm not a moderator, I am not taking down anything, but based on your profile and the screenshot you shared it's clearly what's being taken down.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon Oh no, CGI takes real skill.
@Gargron @Mastodon So people trying to do artwork on their own who have no experience that use Canva to try to do it on their own are suppose to hire somebody instead of using modern technology? Ridiculous. Stupid argument. Mastodon and other platforms are loaded with amateurs doing their own artwork. You need to stop playing games over stupid shit like this. It's not a good look.
@Firebird7479 @Mastodon By your logic why should anyone read your book? They can generate endless books for themselves. If you value your own creative labor but not other people’s, you are a hypocrite. And frankly, a hack. Real artists are cheap.
will they finally fix the permalink issue that has been raised for years?
@Mastodon
Why does it feel like a corporate push and not a community effort...?
3 issues that strike me right away
1. A 1 day switch to a markedly different UI without any calls for feedback on the decisions made and implemented.
2. Having 5 or 50 color themes is pointless if none are 'dark' flavored. Blowing out my eyes with bright and unreadable presentations doesn't help.
3. Discourse as a feedback mechanism means yet another account to create and maintain, and Discourse! Really?!?
