@whitequark at the moment the trust thermocline got hit in 2023 or whenever it was the game engine for virtually every non-AAA video game as well as some AAA games
@mcc @whitequark it’s also been really good for games like rimworld, because it’s really easy for people to mod, and that’s important for that type of game
it’s too bad about the thermocline, but it’s working out for the best here, clearly
@demize @whitequark Most of what made VRChat so vibrant was that it just picked Unity as its level editor, you just make characters or areas or whatever in Unity, VRChat didn't have to make a level editor, the users didn't have to learn a level editor, it's just Unity and even better if you make something and decide you don't want to put it in a proprietary chat system you can just put it in your own game because *it's Unity*
I have never liked Unity as software but its existence was prosocial
