From my sweetheart's Chromebook this morning (the one she uses primarily for simple email and web-browsing), in order to obtain security updates you suggest a process that will remove the web-browser and email programs, and then disconnect her from the Play store where she might be able to obtain replacements/upgraded versions.

If I wanted to make it a useless brick that doesn't do web/email, I'd just turn it off.

Maybe the time has come to get her a new non-Chromebook?

A screenshot of the Google notice advising that we turn on "Extended security upgrades" for her Chromebook which is nice. Except that the process means that certain applications will no longer work and will be removed. Those applications include Chrome and Thunderbird/BlueMail. Essentially the entire reason she has the Chromebook: email and web. It also notes that this upgrade process is irreversible.

@gumnos I’m struggling to understand what you can actually do once Chrome is removed? Unless it’s just the Chrome app from the Play Store and there’s still a built-in Chrome that still allows you to use the damn thing?
