I feel like the BBC would be in a very unique position to put up a Loops instance and post clips from all of their various shows. If there's anything that's perfect for vertical short-form videos, it's British comedy.
They already do this with Facebook, Instagram, and probably Tiktok. I would be beside myself if I could watch bits of Monty Python, Eight Out of Ten Cats Do Countdown, Peep Show, and Graham Norton all on Loops.
@deadsuperhero One of the issues is they don't own the shows, the production companies do.
Broadcasters are responsible for not letting copies get made and distributed worldwide. Federating copies and thereby losing control of the media is one of the issues holding publishers companies back.
For example, one broadcaster I worked with was extremely worried that full copies are made and are potentially undeletable when they (the broadcaster) lose the rights and need to remove the media.
@jaz@toot.wales Hmm, this is a really good insight. That does make the prospect a bit of a tougher sell, then.
I just see great clips from these shows all the time on Facebook Videos and Instagram, and I feel like they would be a welcome addition to our own space, if we could just come up with a strategy to make it happen.
@deadsuperhero Solution was to make some minor changes to their content management system and federate the link, not the media.
