Mastodon admins - I've popped a couple of feature requests in for mail domain and IP geolocation checking for account moderation. Both would need to be opt-in as third party services would be needed, but they'd make signup moderation a lot easier! Add a +1 or a comment if they sound useful (or the opposite!)

Matthew’s point about keeping lookups local makes sense. James, if you’re comparing database options, we also provide downloadable geolocation and ASN databases in MMDB format at ipgeolocation.io I work on the product.
You can query them on your own server, so checking signup IPs doesn’t require sending each address to an external API.
