i feel like there's a quite nice use case not being mentioned in the recent web progressive image talk (likely spurred by jxl being baseline): intentionally displaying a not-very-recognizable representation of an image, for cases like "sensitive image" warnings you can click through (mastodon does this, if you want a concrete example)
