@feld TBH that doesn’t seem super unreasonable. At least not for a V1 release.
But yes, I can definitely see that being very difficult to contend with as we roam through a highly dynamic MFA/Passkeys world.
I’m still thinking I’ve got a lot of people asking for Canadian E-Mail hosting right now… and I’ve got iron sitting idle, that’d probably be ideal for this…
AOX is great, but @stalwartlabs offers a much bigger featureset for biz/family type clients. And the per-seat cost is entirely reasonable.
@mWare Arnt just commited JMAP support to Aox!
@mWare @stalwartlabs agreed. Just plan ahead and you'll probably be fine.
Biggest downfall for me is that Stalwart straight up will *not* allow anyone to send from arbitrary email addresses even if they're technically authorized for it.
Like as FreeBSD developers, we receive mail to our @FreeBSD.org addresses but you have to either login to a server with ssh and use mutt, or enable forwarding to your real email address. And they offer no outbound SMTP. So you have to send from some other mail server if you don't want to ssh and use mutt. Which is fine as long as nobody hard-blocks your mails because of SPF soft failures
Well, Stalwart won't even let you. If I want to be able to send from an @FreeBSD.org address, the entire @FreeBSD.org domain must live on my Stalwart server.
Deal breaker for me unfortunately.

basically: if you use their internal accounts storage, it's forever. If you want to use Postgres and a custom schema, it's forever. If you want to use LDAP, it's forever. You can't migrate accounts between them if you decide you want to use a different auth method.
