Also did you know why the band was renamed "Puffy AmiYumi" in America was because they didn't want to get sued by Diddy? Fucking hilarious, lol - check out this quote

Yoshimura: "It doesn't bother us at all. We respect the fact that Puff Daddy is Puffy in the U.S."

Ami: "The bottom line is that we don't know what the word "Puffy" means. We were given our name by somebody else (Andy Sturmer) six years ago, and we really don't have a clue."

@JeremyMallin
I hate it so much.

“everything is political now, bro. We can’t have conversations about things we disagree with anymore, bro” says the guy whose “disagreement” is the notion that some people’s existence is political discussion.

Successful night tonight, my chums. Very lovely to have unlocked a new level in life of going out with non-drinking male friends. Difficult to convey the alcohol culture in the UK, but you're basically indoctrinated into going out with your mates and getting annihilated on alcohol and that's essentially your whole social and personal relationships. Unsurprisingly this has a knock on effect to many other areas of your lives. Culturally it's not terribly healthy. So I'm thrilled to have discovered going out on a Saturday night to a shisha joint and just banging a load of sparkling water, tea, a bit of food and having a shisha. Also not terrifically good for you, but a far cry from drinking 8 pints and getting in fights. Had a laugh, talked about our feelings and listened to one another and came away from it validated and positive and crucially will wake up tomorrow (today) feelin' fine. Although I went slightly overboard on the sweet potato fries and hummus. Like a wildman. Men! You too can do this and still be a total double-dog alpha male. Grrr. Had so much hummus mate. You should have seen my BiL. Went mental on the shisha and had 4 cokes. We cannot be stopped. Also - we talked about our hopes and worries in a way that was supportive and nurturing. Oi oiiiiii!

@jbevain if you read the blog post about all the work that went into it, it's obviously not a half-assed move, there was a lot of effort in it... but it may have been *greenlit* just for those reasons you mention... although I'm not aware of any "release X every N years to keep the rights" sort of deal for these IPs.

It sounds like Register may have known Andy Sturmer, who produced a lot of music for Puffy - maybe it was more of a matter of convenience to have a bilingual connection to a band which Register felt good about which also filled the niche he needed?

Here in the United States, a popular trend among owners of Jeep vehicles is to line their dashboard with little rubber ducks. It's not random though; the ducks have meaning. Each duck represents one full month their Jeep has been in the shop for repairs

Here's proof that I really did buy the husky boys shirt. Also proof that it doesn't actually fit over my boobs but that's not going to stop me from wearing it.

I'm not sure what Register saw in Puffy, either - their music is pretty decent, but nothing particularly exceptional in the sea of idol talent in Japan. Rock-focused idols are at least a little more unique than pop-focused groups, but not by THAT much, especially in the 2000s when idol music greatly expanded in genre.
