survival horror con game, call it alan fake
@puniko alan lake?
The real story of gen AI is the story of widespread, uncoordinated, unreported resistance.
When you see a CEO firing people who don’t use enough AI, the real story is that many of their employees refuse to do so unless their livelihood is held hostage.
When you see AI added to an application, present on every page, impossible to remove, the real story is that customers won’t use it unless it’s forced down their throats.
AI rejection is everywhere if you read between the lines.
@signalstation finally getting the shingles vax, eh? that's a brutal one
wow, didn't even have to name it, and you hit the nail on the head
A merry Four Seasons Total Landscapinng anniversary to those who celebrate!
@glyph - I will say, as far as conventions go, it's obvious "py.typed" follows a convention but I don't know which one. Python makes some project-navigation things easier but some harder because there are so many choices of tooling. A line saying "used by mypy typechecker" would help me. RIGHT NOW in github the commit adding the file explains this. If you EVER edit that file again, that commit message will no longer show in github.
@glyph One other thought I guess. As to this specifically

This makes me think that an "example invocations" list might be very helpful. A note like "there are many ways to deploy Twisted, but here is one example for an Nginx system…" and then someone who uses Apache would look at it and go "Oh! But I would have to do XYZ to make it work in Apache" which is actually further along in the process than starting from nil.
@glyph I am sorry but this sounds like you are just giving an argument why not being ashamed, just writing a short document giving a single sentence explanation of each thing (we don't need the backstory! every large project ends up like this eventually!) would be helpful for more than one party!!
I do urge, if looking at the structure makes you think "I should fix this", document it FIRST, THEN do fixes. Don't get distracted! Maybe keep an open TODO buffer w/ the structural changes you want :P
@mcc yes, absolutely. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that the emotional exercise of doing so presents a certain amount of resistance (in the War of Art sense)
The port that does not exist
Ask any program to listen on port 0 and it will hand you a socket on port 47193...or 58037...or whatever the kernel felt like that day. Port 0 is not a port you can have. It is the number you pass when you want the operating system to pick one for you.
But a TCP header is just bytes. The destination port field is 16 bits wide, and 0x0000 fits in 16 bits as well as anything e

I'm reworking my geocentric orrery to include a complication that displays the annual position along the ecliptic.

GOP-led assault on Texas citie...
this is your regular reminder to go meet your local PSL branch (or other local communist org). you will feel better fighting beside comrades than by yourself.
> I don't like how the phrase "virtue signalling"has basically come to mean that any positive action any organisation or person takes must only have been done for public approval and applause
Oh, absolutely, but I think that @jamesb was using it with good intentions, rather than in bad faith.
