I seem to recall them saying "if we lose, we're all going to jail."
It would be wrong to disappoint them.
Apple’s “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles, the new MacBook Pros with PROLED XDR displays, and the state of the Macintosh platform.
@gruber I’ve been reading DF for decades, this piece took me back to some of my first encounters with your work: so well written, opinionated, and paying attention to what so many others miss when covering Apple. Chef’s kiss!

I wish my votes were even more public. If I’ve taken the time to downvote your bullshit/nonsense, I want you to know it was me. Same with upvotes.
@tsturm yeah dude, he looks worse every time i see him. looks like they have to stitch him back together every night.

@punishmenthurts @autistics "politicians walk right through" because people choose to see the politicians for the benefit the politician will bring them snd rarely for how much they would want to deal with the person.
I can't imagine 40% of Texans looked at (failed senatorial candidate and indicated fraudster) Ken Paxton thinking "now there's a guy who I would trust with my money". They thought "now here's a guy who isn't a communist" or "he won't let trans people use the same bathrooms as me" or "at least he's not a liberal".
It is baffling, the failings that NT people are perfectly comfortable ignoring.
@elight @punishmenthurts @autistics it’s all about hierarchy. I’m sure my mom is ND (she always thought psychology/psychiatry was for the weak and gullible, though - so no diagnosis). She loves Trump because he’s smart enough to con other people (though she doesn’t think he’s conning her). She hates her neighbor on food stamps for having children to scam the government.

The pharmacy that daycare uses just called and said they can't fill it because there's an interaction with my heart medication. 😢

The Hot Potato Changes Hands Again: On the 2026 Midterm Elections
https://crimethinc.com/hotpotato2026
The Republicans' loss in the midterms sets us up for a volatile two years.
Ultimately, the Democrats are no more capable of addressing the root causes of popular anger than the Republicans. State power will continue to swing back and forth more and more wildly between different parties until our rulers consolidate an autocracy or we manage to effect revolutionary change.
Nothing like helping your elderly mother with a new tech gadget to remind you of just how utterly awful the entire experience of using new tech is. The metaphors and idioms and icons and processes we all grudgingly put up with in our daily life are completely baffling to most everyone else and doubly or triply baffling to people entering the mental decline stage.
@bigzaphod I had the same thought recently. Swipe from the top left, open notifications. Swipe top right, open the control center. Swipe up from the bottom, close the current app. Don’t swipe all the way up, switch between recently used apps. It’s not just icons and buttons, but quite a complex set of gesture memory needed to use a phone.

How private do you consider your votes in the Threadiverse?
From the technical side anyone can spin up their own Lemmy instance and view all votes, but I'm curious at what the community's perspective on how "private" that is. I think Mbin already shows upvoters? Piefed allows anonymous voting. I also know there are sites which show all voting history, but assuming those are fairly disliked.
My general questions to the community: - Do you expect your votes to be private, or just not shown in the UI? - Would per-voter votes showing up on another aggregator platform bother you, even though your instance already shares them with other servers?
For context I'm the dev doing some two way bridge interop between atproto + Threadiverse, in atproto the votes/likes are generally publicly accessible, you just look at the users repo through something like pdsls.dev, they're readable and archivable by anyone. In my opinion this isn't that big of a problem since it's fairly hard to look at and discern (Ex all my votes: https://pdsls.dev/at://did:plc:lmdkqemqrqnfiix72pyjhfey/social.coves.feed.vote). Ultimately trying to figure out if there's already a mutual understanding that they are public and we can just mirror them or whether they should stay hidden as an aggregate.

@mastodonmigration Wow. Okay. Colour me surprised!
It _is_ interesting that he's framing it as a matter of geographic diversity, which hadn't even crossed my mind - that lets him play it as not remotely personal and a matter of political spread-the-leadership savvy. Nice.
The only correct Democratic response to any threat Stephen Miller makes is “we do not negotiate with terrorists.”
Why does Whole Foods email at 12:01am? They should at least get clever with their subject lines.
Subject: You up? (with some suggestive fruit emojis)
Body: For some great deals on produce?
At least I'd feel like they went to some effort.
