Asking the Fedi for help!
Every year I "adopt" two seniors, get their wish lists, and try to buy everything on those lists. Some things are easy, but the clothes (the bulk of the lists) can be hard.
I do all my purchasing online. Last year someone pointed me to the Vermont Country Store and I've already made some purchases there — but they don't have everything I need.
And searching at department stores web sites (like Macys) is horrible. I can't narrow down my search enough (for things like washable, or open-front sweater) so I might have hundreds of sweaters or slacks to search though. And a search for a shawl brings up many things that aren't shawls.
So: Does anyone have good high-quality clothing stores, with clothes appropriate for senior women, to recommend to me? In the US, please. I need sweaters, blouses, pants — and a shawl. And obviously no Amazon.
@jeridansky There's digging to do, but Etsy has some wonderful makers. At least for shawls.
@lrhodes @mcc i agree with this but yet can also imagine that people hold the opposite pov at the same time. That while it was pretty difficult to contribute something to a project you loved and used before if it was nontrivial in size, now you can “just” vibe code up a fix for that annoying bug that never gets fixed or that feature you want. So I can imagine people feel LLMs make the source code *more* open not less. Not that I want their patches that they don’t even understand but yeah.
@blinkygal @lrhodes it is possible for me to perform empathetic imagination of another person while still thinking they are full of shit
And completed Selvedge jeans#2 (with massive extra bottom edge, lol... I am anticipating a bit more shrinkage with this pair. Even though the fabric was washed once. Still very stiff and bleeding indigo). Fits fine but hard-to-bend-over stiff... will have to take photos of them on later. #sewing
@ai6yr I've been wanting to try my hand at making some jeans, but it's pretty daunting. Nice work!
@billyjoebowers @ai6yr
Cheating!
@USelaine @billyjoebowers My daughter recently bought some PRE RIPPED JEANS 😬

They’re not private at all, I’ve never been under the illusion that they were.
I like it, have some guts, stand on business. If people want to downvote they should be willing to attach their name to it, internet points are fake anyway.

Lemvotes shows votes. So, it’s not private.

Moderators can also see votes on posts in their communities. I assume instance admins can do the same for everything.

Motorola has announced their new high end flagship phone including upcoming official support for GrapheneOS as an OS option.
Motorola Signature 27 will be the first Motorola device supported by GrapheneOS. More devices will be supported in the future.
@GrapheneOS
That sounds terrific, but if they really wanted market penetration they would go for the Moto G line. Most people can afford those.
@ajroach42 "KATHY LOVES PHYSICS AND HISTORY" YOUTUBE CHANNEL DEEP DIVE IN HISTORY OF THE IDEAS AROUND ENTROPY AND QUANTUM MECHANICS AND THE PEOPLE WHO MADE ALL THAT HAPPEN
@dirtwizard666 that sounds neat.
@chris damn!
@mcc One of my issues with the four freedoms is that they outline a situation that only ever need be hypothetical. Sure, you're free to read and modify the source code, but people mostly don't. The bigger and more complicated the code gets, the bigger the lift for exercising those freedoms. That was true long before anyone put LLMs into the mix, but LLMs intensify the negative pressures that discourage people from applying those freedoms as more than merely hypothetical.

Okay so it appears KVM is the standard VM management layer on Linux, and HVF is the standard VM management layer on MacOS.
This makes the error message seem the more curious, because I got the error on Windows. Is what the error message really saying "You cannot use -cpu host on Windows"?
UPDATE: The fix turned out to be to simply remove "-cpu host" from my invocation. "-cpu host" appears to be banned on Windows, but omitting -cpu entirely is allowed.
I think what I"m suppsoed to do here is figure out which of a hundred or so x86_64 micro variations I have, like there's some specific string that corresponds to the exact i5 I have, you can get a list of the strings by running `qemu -cpu help` but I don't know how to figure out which one is correct
But it lets me say nothing. OK
@jetlagjen @ai6yr a little while ago i sewed my first button. i followed this tutorial, which was very helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a97VAFcEUQA
