This post is written on https://normals.me and delivered to !fediverse@lemmy.world over #ActivityPub, so if you are reading it the basic plumbing works. Now let me explain what is this.

Normals is a forum with communities, threads, and questions with an accepted answer. It is a single instance, not software you can host, and the core is closed for anti-abuse reasons. The federation module will be published separately with implementation notes (FEP-67ff).

What federates today Every community is a Group actor following the Lemmy model (FEP-1b12). Follow @selfhosted@normals.me or any other community from Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin or Mastodon.

Posts and comments go both ways. Replies from your instance appear in the thread on Normals, replies from Normals go back to the origin.

Remote content is labelled with its origin, links back to it, and is never copied. Media loads from the source.

Signed fetches, so it works with instances that require authorized fetch. NodeInfo 2.1 is up.

Policies, in case they matter to you, it has no ads, and no paid reach, and of course no AI training on posts. AI crawlers blocked by default, public mod log with reasons, and no automated removals. Numbers at https://normals.me/transparency so please take a look.

If something from your instance shows up wrong here, or something from here shows up wrong on yours, reply with the URL and I'll fix it. Andy Piper mentioned NodeBB uses the same group model, if anyone runs a NodeBB instance I'd like to test against it, if possible.

I hope we all have fun. Cheers!

We shouldn’t be forced to use toxic platforms that track and profile us in order to get public information.

Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube track and profile their users so that they can target advertising towards them.

Their business models fuel online harms by pushing more and more extreme content to users. Despite this, these platforms are one of the primary ways that government departments share public information.

Tell your MP to support the EDM calling on the UK Government to ensure that all public sector social media content is published on open, decentralised and federated platforms!

@fribbledom I think I understand why and fully support this. Would you still be willing to release a minor fix in between for a severe security problem, should one be reliably reported? Not saying you should, I am genuinely interested in how you feel about such a situation.

@jalefkowit Slimy Felon Pedo Don the Con is running out of runway and the end is near.

@samlitzinger Think the pundits and establishment Dems will now stop questioning the need for accountability?

I'm sorry spam email sender, but I think you're uh... missing the point 😅

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me sorry. I just searched contact on help. there were to many results.

@christin Danke fürs herzliche willkommen heißen!

@ai6yr Haven't listened to that episode yet, but they have a HAM guest this week. The Firewalls don't stop Dragons podcast normally focus on security/privacy related stuff. Range of guests, I don't think @Viss has been on the show yet, but could see it happening. Bruce Schneier has been guest for milestone episodes.

@c0dec0dec0de @mntmn all the important ones do.

@albinanigans @benjistokman It has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with audio output and also DisplayPort 1.4 for desktop mode. Most GrapheneOS users use wired headphones via USB rather than Bluetooth. There are good USB-C headphones available especially since Apple moved to USB-C for the iPhone a while ago. USB-C is going to continue taking over from nearly every other port including power cables for laptops and video output. It would be cool having two USB-C ports but it's too niche to expect it.

@jalefkowit the thing that gets me is that all of those legislative bullet points they crowed about were swept away with the stroke of a sharpie

Listening to Abdul El-Sayed retcon the Uncommitted movement was a trip!

Like, wow!

@ethicalrevolution @mirlo thank you much appreciated!

@benjaoming @themadhatter To be sure when AIO first came out its security posture was null, but since Nextcloud made AIO their recommended installation method it has a lot of eyes on it, and is in increasingly better shape.

A major positive going for it is that easy updates in browser via AIO Admin Interface means more freq patching for those less skilled and/or directly invested in sysadmin work.

Still, AIO needs some guided, informed hardening before it's safe to onboard a membership.
